The Nurse Manager is responsible for day-to-day patient flow and operations in a specific clinical unit.  Responsibilities include coordination and supervision of assigned nursing and clinical assistant staff as they provide care to individuals receiving therapy for oncologic and hematologic problems. The Nurse Manager oversees direct patient care, including patient and family education. The Nurse Manager delegates triage of unexpected patients to the charge nurse and will modify nursing assignments, as needed, to meet the needs of patients. The Nurse Manager provides clinical leadership and management and promotes professional growth for self and staff. The Nurse Manager demonstrates systems thinking, response to diversity, collaboration, clinical judgment, clinical inquiry, facilitation of learning and advocacy for patients and staff.  The Nurse Manager collaborates with the Clinical Specialist to provide clinical expertise for the unit. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary across the different programs and areas. The Nurse Manager uses theoretical, evidence-based, and experiential knowledge to advance clinical practice. The Nurse Manager serves as a mentor for clinical staff within Nursing and Patient Care Services to nurture leadership potential and to promote professional development of others. 

Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant

The NP/PA is a clinician who demonstrates clinical expertise and leadership skills. The NP/PA uses clinical and academic skills in the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of patients with cancer or hematologic disorders. In collaboration with a physician, the NP/PA manages therapeutic regimens for acute and chronic problems associated with such disease, treatment and/or conditions. The NP/PA provides anticipatory guidance, patient and family education, and psychological and emotional support. The NP/PA has prescriptive authority which includes schedule II through V controlled substances in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Clinical Nurse Educator - Center for Clinical & Professional Development

The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) works collaboratively with the Clinical Specialists and Nurse Directors to ensure clinical staff have the knowledge and skills needed to provide quality patient care.  The CNE is responsible for the assessment of education needs and the coordination and implementation of central staff development.  The CNE fosters lifelong learning for the clinical staff.  The CNE develops and manages nursing orientation and staff competency requirements, including live teaching and development of educational materials.    The CNE assists the Clinical Specialist policy owners with the development of policy and procedure related to patient care and nursing process. Participates on departmental workgroups and committees to provide clinical input and expertise.  He/she is a member of a multidisciplinary team that requires effective communication and collaboration with co-workers and staff. The role requires clinical expertise, critical thinking, collaborative practice, excellent communication skills, ability to serve as a change agent, and an understanding of the principles and practices of clinical care.
